Welcome!

You have reached the website for the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Study Center, a contemporary training center for tomorrow's leading psychoanalysts combined with a service for low-cost mental health treatment.

Introduction

PPSC is dedicated to using multiple theoretical perspectives to provide high- level training in psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy to psychologists, social workers and other qualified mental health practitioners. Our goal is to graduate psychoanalysts and psychotherapists who represent our unique tradition of diversity, recognition and respect for the individual. In the spirit of what we believe psychoanalysis to be, PPSC is committed to community, curiosity, and collegiality that foster openness to learning from each other. This is the foundation of our training of students and how they work with each patient.

Philosophy

PPSC emphasizes the importance of helping candidates to develop a personal, informed and consistent approach. The curriculum and study environment are formulated to provide a solid grounding in basic psychoanalytic theory and to help candidates compare and contrast the significant contributions of Contemporary Freudian Analysis, Modern Psychoanalysis, Object Relations Theory, Self Psychology Theory, and the Relational/Intersubjective theories. Comprehensive synthesis of core specialized classes, group supervision, personal analysis, individual supervision and personalized educational planning enable the candidate to accomplish these goals. Similarly, in our Continuing Education Program and in our post- master's  COPAT (Committee on Psychoanalysis and Addictions Treatment) Lecture Series, the curriculum is structured to apply the theory and techniques of relevant aspects of the major psychoanalytic orientations PPSC emphasizes, to specific issues such as substance and sexual abuse, illness, sexuality, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, etc.
